Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Monday, 15 August the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.
Although defined as an article of faith by Pope Pius XII just over half a century ago, the Assumption of Our Lady into heaven has been accepted from back to the earliest of Christian times. The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus.
Students will be attending Mass at the Cathedral to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Mass will begin at 9.30am.
A reminder that we have a number of students receiving their First Holy Communion on Saturday, August 27th, 2022 at 5.30pm. Children who are wishing to sing and form a choir with children from St Patrick’s Stratford and St Mary's, Sale on this day are invited to attend.
ATHLETICS
We look forward to our senior athletics day. Students will be walking to the Little Athletics Track located along Dawson St, Sale. Families are invited to come and watch their child compete. Please check details below for starting and finishing times.
It was lovely to see a number of our families attend assembly today. We hope to begin our celebrations of learning next week, whereby each class takes turns to lead prayer and share some of their learnings with the school community. A reminder that assemblies will be held in the stadium for the remainder of this term.
As mentioned previously, the school will take part in a school review process. This will take place on August 30th and August 31st. School Reviewers will join us and have the opportunity to speak to staff and students, visiting classrooms and discussing varying aspects of school. Our Year 6 students will be on camp at this time of school, however they will have the chance to meet reviewers on Monday, August 22nd, 2022.
SIBLING INTERVIEWS
Please know that our sibling interviews for 2023 enrolments will take place on Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th September. A notifcation will be sent when bookings are open.
CHILD SAFETY/COVID 19
A reminder that children who test positive for COVID 19 are asked to isolate for seven days. Siblings may attend school but are asked to test five out of the seven days during this isolation period. Siblings over the age of eight are asked to wear masks to school if a family member has tested positive.
PERMISSION SLIPS
A reminder to check your PAM account for upcoming events and excursions. Permission forms must be completed for children to attend events.
SWIMMING
Please know that the swimming program is part of the Victorian school curriculum with children working towards achieving their Victorian Water Safety Certificate. From 2017, the Victorian Curriculum F–10 has required swimming and water safety education to be taught as part of the Health and Physical Education learning area.
By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.
The certificate is awarded when a student can:
- swim 50m continuously
- answer water safety-based questions
- perform simple rescues.
PRAYERS
Each day, our children have the opportunity to pray. Many share a prayer for their family. As we make our way towards the weekend, we pray for each of our school families and hope they may comfort in knowing that their children share a prayer for them.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

A SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of indigenous communities.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, when on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Today, it is a week-long celebration held in July that consists of range of traditional and contemporary activities.
NAIDOC Week is an important event that helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. It enables a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future. Families are encouraged to join in and support young people in learning the significance of NAIDOC Week.
This Special Report offers suggestions on how families can celebrate NAIDOC Week together.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
