Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Firstly, we wish all our Mothers a very happy Mother’s Day and every blessing for Sunday.
I hope you manage to enjoy a very special Mother’s Day Breakfast. We look forward to coffee and croissants being back on the menu at St Thomas on the Friday proceeding Mother’s Day in 2021.
When God created mothers,
All as lovely as can be,
He made one extra special,
and saved her just for me!
We are looking to create a display of the photos we have received from families during this Remote Schooling period. The photos will be placed in the school hall and not published elsewhere unless they were initially sent to be shared in the newsletter and on our school website. They will serve as a point of discussion for children when they return and a celebration of the learning that has taken place. We acknowledge that these photos have been taken in the context of your homes, if you do not wish the photos you have sent to teachers during this period to be displayed, please let your teacher know.
We thank families for supporting the appropriate use of technology. Our Google Meets with senior classes have been going well and children have enjoyed seeing and chatting to each other. Just a reminder that Google Meets are to only be initiated by your child’s classroom teacher and will be scheduled to take place during the day.
We also take the time to acknowledge “Do It For Dolly Day”. We recognise the need for cybersafety and encourage parents/guardians to be aware of what is taking place on the social media forums their child may be using.
Dolly’s Dream will:
- Raise awareness in communities, children, and parents about the serious issue of bullying and its devastating effects
- Work to prevent and address Bullying issues in the community
- Deliver information on ways to mitigate bullying, including cyberbullying, within school communities and to those in need
- Change cultures in the community to prevent bullying, and
- Support victims of bullying
With more young people than ever before online across Australia, awareness and prevention of bullying have never been more important.
This month, eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant revealed that higher use of the internet during the COVID-19 crisis has been accompanied by a 40 per cent spike in reports to eSafety across its reporting areas.
Last year, thousands of families, schools and workplaces were awash with blue as Australia stood together against bullying for the inaugural Do It For Dolly Day and it's hoped even more will join the fight this year”.
