CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN SALE
Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
It is lovely to see all our children return to school. This week has been a time for reconnecting with friends, re-establishing routines and creating new opportunities for learning. I thank all families for following drop off and pick up times. We are so proud of the independence displayed by all of our children as they make their way to classes and complete their morning set up in readiness for learning.
I sincerely thank families for supporting our uniform policy with children wearing their winter uniform so well. As Winter mornings present a chilly start to the day, we remind children to wear their jumpers and to place them safely in their bags if the day warms up. We encourage you to join staff in reminding children to place their items in school bags. We have had a number of misplaced jumpers already and stress the importance of labelling all uniform items. In doing so, they can easily be returned to children throughout the day.
A reminder also for children with shoulder length hair to wear all of it neatly tied back, up and off the shoulder and face. Hair ribbons are blue or gold in line with our uniform colours. We have had a report of head lice and ask families to check heads for these friendly little visitors regularly.
Today, we held our first video conference assembly with all classes. We were able to share our school prayer, birthday notifications, award winners and general information. Leadership badges were given out to our Year 6 students. As the weeks continue, we will ask our senior children to take more responsibility for the content of these assemblies, guided by their teachers. We are also planning to run a cross country event for individual classes on Wednesday 24th June. This event will take place at school and allow for some team spirit building, with children in their House colours doing the best for their team. More details will follow. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this will be an inhouse event with no spectators, however, we will endeavour to share some of the highlights via our website gallery and newsletter.
Teachers have drafted their reports and they are now being proofread before being sent home in the final week of school. Please know that Semester One reports for 2020 will look considerably different to those received in the past. Our reporting system is restricted to six month increments. Due to the unreliability and accuracy of Term Two information, achievement levels will be based on Term One data. Therefore, you may see little growth or movement of dots in the graph representation. Teachers are now collating and gathering work samples, as well as completing testing to provide a more accurate picture of your child’s learning during Remote Schooling. You will have an opportunity to discuss what has been identified by teachers as children return to school, with Parent /Teacher Interviews scheduled for Week Three of Term Three, July 28th and July 29th. Online bookings can be made at the beginning of Term Three. Written reports at the end of the year will then aim to provide an accurate measure of growth for the 2020 school year.
Enjoy your weekend.
Take care and God Bless,
Anita and staff
