Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Child Safety
Today, we acknowledge the National Day of Action Against Bullying, however
this week, bullying has been the topic of conversation in our classrooms as senior students viewed online presentations and discussions, focusing on the role of the bystander. The following information was gathered from a review of current research by Australia’s Safe and Supportive School Communities Working Group.
Some key points shared included:
- Young people commonly identify enhancing social status as a key motivator for bullying.
- Diseng gement and emotional distancing are often exhibited by students who engage in bullying, and those who witness bullying without intervening.
- Although most incidents of bullying are witnessed by peers, most will not intervene to stop it, thus providing tacit approval for the behaviour.
- Students commonly express a belief that bullying is wrong, but may experience concern about losing social status themselves through intervening.
- Bystanders consider a number of factors in making a decision to act, including their relationship to those involved, the apparent seriousness and emotional impact, the social hierarchy, the perceived ‘contributing’ role of the student being bullied, and the social roles and responsibilities of everyone present.
- The role and motivations of bystanders to intervene have been a key focus in recent bullying research. It has been proposed that bystanders are the key to stopping bullying.
- The research suggests that working with bystanders to provide skills and support to safely intervene may be more successful than working only with those students directly bullying or being bullied.

Miss Pasfield is getting Married!
Miss Pasfield’s Getting Married....
Foundation MP students had lots of fun celebrating Miss Pasfield’s upcoming Wedding today. The students enjoyed dressing her up for her big day, presenting her with an illustrated book of how they think she’ll look on the day and asking her lots of important wedding questions! We wish you all the very best Miss Pasfield and can’t wait to see some photos soon.

New PAM (Parent Access Module) Roll Out - link and information
New PAM (Parent Access Module) Roll Out
PAM is an innovative parent-controlled electronic medical form for our school. It’s an electronic version of the paper-based forms we previously completed for excursions and camps. It provides parents with the opportunity to update medical information promptly and accurately while providing the school with instant access to the emergency information provided by you. We use the PAM app in the best interests of the children whilst also reducing the burden on parents to fill out the same information on multiple forms throughout the year.
Parents can use a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone to enter details including:
- Student absence - entered via ‘Parent Notified Absences’. This is our preferred method, as we are phasing out the Szap app
- Emergency contacts
- Medical contacts
- Medical checklist, including asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes
- Notes and other care instructions from parents
- Parent teacher interviews
- Student reports
- More features will be introduced later in the year
St Thomas’ Primary School will initially also use PAM as a tool to send parents permission forms and notifications.
Please note that it is the responsibility of parents to ensure their child’s medical and contact details are up to date and complete. In the event of an emergency the school staff will rely on the information provided via PAM.
We recommend that you add the PAM website to the home screen on your mobile device which will then display as an App. For instructions on how to do this and more, please access the PAM Parent Instruction Manual.
To access PAM, please click HERE and enter your login credentials to proceed to your account.
Please note you may only have one shared active family account per household, please contact the office if you have any queries.
If you need your login credentials or a password reset, please contact our reception officers on 5144 1332 or reception@sttsale.catholic.edu.au.

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Virtual Classroom
Be an eSafe kid: Being an upstander
A live Virtual Classroom webinar that explores how a small action (posting a photo) can cause harm.
It looks at the ways students can be upstanders and support their friends online.
By participating in this webinar students will:
- use a case study to explore how being an upstander can help a situation
- learn how to be upstanders
- recognise the harm that can be caused by cyberbullying.
Please note: We request that teachers register their classes for these webinars. Individual student registration will not be accepted, as connections to the online platform are limited. Schools can register for any open session hosted by eSafety or a session hosted by their school jurisdiction.
Open sessions available to all State, Catholic and Independent schools
Session time: (AEDT)
- Tuesday 18 May 2021 at 9.30 to 10.15 am
