Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
REMOTE SCHOOLING
As we enter another period of lockdown, we wish all our families well.
Please know that staff will be available to answer questions via email each day. Your child’s learning plan will be shared by classroom teachers on Sunday afternoon after 4pm. As with previous lockdowns, families will need to register their child’s attendance by responding to their teacher’s morning email. If your child is not participating in Remote Schooling on a particular day, you will also need to notify the school they are absent using PAM or the Schoolzine App.It is most important that all families complete their PAM registration to ensure important information is available to them.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
Yesterday, students were sent home with the necessary items for next week. If your child did not bring home their pack, you would have received an email or phone call from the teacher, detailing arrangements for picking up their belongings. They may be collected from the admin foyer on Monday morning between 8am and 9am.
The weekly learning program will be similar to the past with some alterations, taking into account feedback we have received.
We will continue to prioritise English, Mathematics and Religious Education and ask that tasks set for these disciplines are completed for the day.
Activities will be set for Japanese, Phys.Ed, Art and Music, and we ask you to select one of these specialist areas to complete each day, if possible.

We suggest that students wear their sports uniform as they will go out for games after lunch.
Students may bring a book to read, a drawing or colouring-in book, a game or puzzle they may play on their own quietly, when school work is finished. Students will be supervised to complete the work assigned by their teacher/s.
We do expect children to return to school next Friday, June 4th, 2021. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
CHILD SAFETY
We do remind families that students are to only use the school email address for the purpose of learning. We ask parents to be mindful of what children may be accessing or sharing on their phones or personal devices with some extra time on their hands while at home.
Information regarding how students can remain safe online can be accessed through the e-safety commissioner website. We encourage families to access this site and discuss cybersafety with their child.

Division Cross Country
On Monday we had a team of runners compete at the Wellington Division Cross Country at Yarram Golf Course. Our competitors performed exceptionally well on a tough undulating course, and have all progressed to compete at the Gippsland Regional Championships in Warragul next Thursday. Congratulations to Maddy and Taylah Mizzi who won their age group events and to Ava and Jack Armstrong who placed on the day as well. Good luck next week!
Winter Sport
It was great to have winter sport back on the calendar this year! Our grade 5 and 6 students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play together and represent St Thomas’ in the district soccer, netball and football competitions held in Sale and Maffra on Tuesday. Students competed in a round robin competition against 7 other primary schools in our district, before playing off in finals. Both our soccer and netballers made it to the semi-finals. Our netballers narrowly missed out on making the grand-final after a nail-biting semi final that resulted in 3 time-ons against Gippsland Grammar. The boys AFL team had a busy day playing 8 games in total. They also experienced a close and exciting grand-final against St Mary’s Sale, where they lost by 7 points. We would like to extend a big thank you to Tegan Reid and Daniel Bird for offering their time and expertise to coach our teams. As well as to our volunteer umpires and scorers who did an amazing job.
Zart (a company that sells art supplies and hosts professional development) is running a competition for students. The idea is to create an artwork celebrating the theme OUR CELEBRATION OF AUSTRALIA.
Artwork can be 2D (e.g. drawing, painting, sidewalk chalk drawing etc.) or 3D (e.g. sculpture, construction). Each student can only enter once and must seek parental permission. They submit their entry via the website once the competition opens.
Parents can visit the website https://www.zartart.com.au/home and click on the tab Student Art Prize for more information. Email any questions to mglover@sttsale.catholic.edu.au or directly to zartart@zartart.com.au
2021 is an exciting year for Art in Gippsland. We have the Archibald prize coming to Gippsland Art Gallery! The Gallery is the sole Victorian host venue for the Prize’s Regional Tour. The exhibition, which is celebrating its centenary year, will be held from October 8 to November 21. Students will have the opportunity to enter the “Young Archies” through the Gallery. I will share details as soon as I have them!
The Packing Room Prize winner was announced earlier today. If anyone would like to see more about the Archibald they can visit artgallery.nsw.gov.au
We would like to acknowledge the kind donation of Mrs. C's books and teaching supplies to St Thomas' Primary School by her family. It is very much appreciated. She is missed.
Grade 5 Artwork for National Sorry Day

Magic Beach Performance at the Wedge - Foundation to Grade Two
On Tuesday 8th June the Foundation, Year One and Year Two classes will be attending a performance at the Wedge in Sale. We will be travelling to The Wedge by bus, leaving at 1:40pm and will return at the end of the school day. We will be watching the production of “Magic Beach,'' a play based on the book by Alison Lester. This excursion will provide our students with an opportunity to celebrate the power of imagination and the differences that make every child special. The production will finish at 3pm, which means that we will not be back in time for country bus students. If your child catches the country bus, please make other arrangements for their pick up from school on this day.
