Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
As the weeks continue throughout the term, our children become more familiar with their routines and settle into the structures of the school day.
Teachers and students are busy setting goals and focusing on what it means to be Respectful, Resilient and Safe within their classrooms, whilst playing outside and within different learning spaces. These expectations are consistently discussed and reflected upon throughout the day to become common understandings and ways of behaving in the many contexts that present themselves at school.
This year we are very excited to be introducing the The Resilience Project. You will receive information in the coming weeks. We will also be continuing to make use of the Department of Education - Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships resource. We are confident that these resources will be invaluable in assisting us in achieving a Resilient, Respectful and Safe environment for all.
By responding to these expectations, we create positive environments that are reflective of the values of Christ, calling us to respect the dignity of each person.
We pray that Christ is with us always, guiding the decisions we make to be respectful, resilient and safe in our daily life at St Thomas’. Let love and kindness be the gifts we share, bringing happiness, peace, comfort and a sense of worth.
Learning and Teaching
Each week, teachers participate in professional learning and planning activities to create the best learning opportunities for children. Recently, teachers have been focusing on their yearly overviews and term planners to ensure they are teaching the Victorian Curriculum and the Religious Education curriculum “To Live in Christ Jesus”. Teachers are busy observing, taking notes, pre and post testing to identify the needs of individual children and making adjustments in their weekly teaching programs to support children with their learning.
Learning Continuity plans have been prepared for those children who may be isolating and will be sent home as necessary. Those children who are well enough, may begin learning when appropriate.
Foundation students
Next week, Foundation students will continue with arrangements for “Drop off and Pick up”.
They may enter via any gate in the morning with their siblings or come to the Community room and be directed to their classroom by Mrs Little or an Education Support Officer.
End of day arrangements remain the same and all Foundation students and their siblings may leave via the Admin Foyer gate. Foundation teachers will escort children to the Community Room and direct children to their families.
This arrangement will be reviewed again at the end of next week.
CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING:
Seasonal hay fever and asthma
We have received a number of questions regarding seasonal hay fever and asthma.
Advice from the coronavirus.vic.gov.au website suggests that you speak to your doctor to manage your hay fever and asthma.
“The symptoms of hay fever and asthma can be similar to COVID-19 and it can be difficult to tell the difference between them. It is important that you do not assume these symptoms are hay fever or asthma.
If you have symptoms that are in any way different to your usual hay fever or asthma symptoms or have restarted after a period of absence – get tested for COVID-19 and stay home until you get your results.
If you are unsure, you should get tested for COVID-19.
The best way to prevent symptoms of hay fever or asthma is to have an up-to-date hay fever treatment plan or asthma action plan and follow it. If you don’t yet have a plan, now is the time to check in with your GP” (coronavirus.vic.gov.au).
QR Codes
The Victorian Government has announced that from 6.00 pm on Friday 18 February 2022, QR code check-in requirements will no longer be in place in schools, however, schools are required to continue to check the vaccination status of visitors, contractors and volunteers entering the school.
SWIMMING TRIALS
After a stormy Wednesday evening, swimming trials were held for students in Years 3-6 on Thursday. Novelty activities were held if time allowed. I thank volunteers who were able to assist us on the day.
The SSV district events are due to be held on Friday, March 4th, 2022, however, this date will be confirmed.
PARISH NEWS
Tony Capurso and myself will hold discussions with Fr Francis and neighbouring parish schools to determine how and when sacramental programs will be run for the year and how we may engage in liturgy and prayer within class groups and as a whole school.
We are becoming much more adaptable and confident in using technology in a variety of ways to engage in learning, prayer and activities across classes and as a whole school.
THANK YOU
Please know that we received a lovely letter from St Vincent De Paul thanking families for canned food and non perishable items, toys and clothes that were donated towards the end of last year around the Christmas period. St Vinnies were very grateful and appreciative of your support. Thank you!
Enjoy your weekend and take care,
Anita and staff
