Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Well, it is definitely the time of year to bring out the Winter woollies. I hope you are all managing to keep warm and avoiding the Winter bugs that seem to be impacting our school community.
Thank you for your support as we manage staff and children who are not well and who are taking time to fully recover. Hopefully, we will all manage to have a good rest this long weekend and restore some energy as we make our way towards the end of the term.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Please know that Parent /Teacher Interviews are scheduled for the last week of term, June 21st & June 22nd, 2022 and details will be shared with you next week regarding online bookings.
We ask that parents attend the June interviews as it is an opportune time to discuss your child’s report and how the children have settled and responded to the first semester of learning.
If you are unable to attend for any reason, your child’s teacher will make contact with you to organise a suitable time that works for you both.
Incursion
This week, students in Foundation to Year 4 had the opportunity to listen to some Indigenous stories and music performed by Lucas Proudfoot.
He managed to capture the students' interest and there were many smiles and much laughter as he shared his own story and indigenous culture with the students.
Please find some photos attached in this week's newsletter.
Our Year 5&6 children also managed to participate in the Winter Sport Round Robin competition. Well done and thank you to all who assisted with the day.
A special thank you to Teagan Reid for assisting with netball and Daniel Bird for coaching the football team. A great and chilly day was had by all.
Volunteers
Just a reminder, that all volunteers need to have completed the Volunteer Induction, hold a current Working With Children’s Check and be vaccinated with a booster vaccination to volunteer. If you have an exemption, your details need to be registered with the appropriate authority by your vaccination provider/medical practitioner and a COVID digital certificate detailing your status will also need to be provided to the school.
Assemblies and Celebration of Learning
We have been keen to have our Celebrations of Learning feature at Assemblies and have families join us, however, continuing illness numbers have prolonged our plans and our scheduled roster for the term was placed on hold.
We hope the new term will provide us with the opportunity to complete a full roster of assemblies with Celebrations of Learning from each class included within our Assemblies.
For our new families, each class is given the responsibility of leading prayer and sharing their learnings. A class is rostered for each week during the term. The children are always very excited to share their work with other classes and their parents.
Enjoy your weekend,
Three days!!
Take Care and keep well.

Winter Sport
On Wednesday all of our grade 5 & 6 students participated in the Sale & District Winter Sport Competition. We had numerous teams compete and participate in the soccer, netball and AFL round robin competitions against other primary schools from within our local shire. Our students performed exceptionally well and enjoyed the opportunity to play together and represent their school on the sporting field. The AFL and netball teams progressed to the finals, with the Mixed netball team being marginally beaten in the grand-final by a strong Guthridge PS team. Congratulations to all our students who competed. A special thank you to Tegan Reid, Daniel Bird and our teaching staff who coached and supervised our students at each of these events. Your time and enthusiasm to support our students is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to the following students who received Merit Awards this week.

School Review Survey Parent Survey
The process of school review is an important element of the ongoing improvement of
schools in the Diocese of Sale. This survey tool is a way for your school to examine its
practices and shared understandings as a way of identifying practices to be maintained
and strengthened, and opportunities to be addressed moving forward.
As a parent, you have an important perspective to share. Please answer each question,
rating your response on the five-point scale. Responses are anonymous and will assist
the school in its school review.

A SPECIAL REPORT: Building Resilience Post Pandemic
Unfortunately, the mental health of young people has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. As many families settle back into pre-COVID routines, there seems to be a pervasive sense of optimism about what lies ahead.
Unfortunately children and teens are not immune to what is now being termed the “psychological pandemic”. Young people are at risk of not achieving the primary demands of developmental tasks such as procuring independence, identity formation, as well as obtaining and maintaining peer relationships. What kids need most in the current environment is support, understanding, empathy and encouragement from caring adults. They live up or down to the expectations we set for them.
If there is a panacea to the adversity caused by the pandemic, then it is the building of resilience. Resilience is the capacity to face, overcome, be strengthened and transformed by adversity. Never before, have parents needed the skills, the knowledge and the strategies to build resilience in their children as much as they do now. There are 7 integral and interrelated components that make up being resilient that can help young people thrive and develop healthy coping strategies.
This Special Report explores the “7 C’s of Resilience” and includes suggested strategies on how adult carers can best facilitate them.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
