Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Just a few reminders before we head into the final week of the school term, our shortest term for the year.
Farewell
Firstly, we say farewell to Vicki Colley and Lauren Madeley who have given so much time and enthusiasm to our school community. As mentioned previously, Lauren will be settling into a new town and is very excited to be moving into her new home. Vicki will be taking leave before retiring from classroom teaching and Catholic Education at the end of the school year.
We wish them both the very best and every blessing.
We have secured replacement teachers and an announcement will be made to Year 5MC families as soon as the necessary paperwork has been completed.
Parent /Teacher Interviews
These will be held next Tuesday June 21st and Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022.
We ask that at least one parent attends June Interviews. We are pleased that they can take place face to face, however, we do remind parents that if they are unwell, they make alternative arrangements with their child’s teacher.
Registrations are now open online. Please check the link via your PAM account.
School Reports
Please know that some teachers are still completing final edits on mid year reports and we hope to have them available to families prior to Parent/Teacher Interviews. Our intention is to have them available on PAM on Tuesday. You will be notified of any change to this arrangement.
Unfortunately, staff illness has led to delays in timelines and schedules.
Swimming
Our Swimming program has been approved and will go ahead in Term Three.
Kemp Aquatics will be teaching a water safety and Learn to Swim program.
The program will take place on Mondays and Fridays, however, one day per week will be allocated per class over a 9 week period.
Eg. Year 1A - every Monday for 9 weeks
Year 1B - every Friday for 9 weeks
Permission slips will need to be completed on PAM and medical details updated if necessary.
They will be available on PAM next week.
School photos
We are currently seeking feedback regarding school photos. Please email reception with your comments. Thank you.
RE Closure Day
Staff will take part in a Spirituality day on Friday June 24th, 2022.
We have two Sion sisters, Sr Carmel and Sr Marie Johnson, sharing the story of the Sion sisters and their connection with St Thomas. Sr Marie Johnson was one of our founding principals when the school was first established in 1970.
It is important that we hear our story, reconnect with our story and continue our story, so that the story of St Thomas’ is not lost. It is also important that we continue the work of the Sion sisters who contributed so much to the community of Sale, establishing an orphanage in 1913 and then continuing with Catholic education at the Sion convent, St Mary's Sale, St Patrick's Stratford and St Thomas’ Sale.
We also look forward to Fr Francis joining us and taking time to stop and build our relationship with God through prayer and listening and reflecting upon scripture.
End of Term
Please know that students will finish the term on Thursday June 23rd at 3.15pm.
Country buses will be running on this day and will run to their normal schedule.
Students are due to return on Monday, July 11th.
Country buses will not be running on this day.
We would sincerely like to thank everyone for their support during this term and wish everyone a well deserved break.
Keep warm, stay safe and healthy.
God Bless
Anita and staff

A SPECIAL REPORT: Building Resilience Post Pandemic
Unfortunately, the mental health of young people has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. As many families settle back into pre-COVID routines, there seems to be a pervasive sense of optimism about what lies ahead.
Unfortunately children and teens are not immune to what is now being termed the “psychological pandemic”. Young people are at risk of not achieving the primary demands of developmental tasks such as procuring independence, identity formation, as well as obtaining and maintaining peer relationships. What kids need most in the current environment is support, understanding, empathy and encouragement from caring adults. They live up or down to the expectations we set for them.
If there is a panacea to the adversity caused by the pandemic, then it is the building of resilience. Resilience is the capacity to face, overcome, be strengthened and transformed by adversity. Never before, have parents needed the skills, the knowledge and the strategies to build resilience in their children as much as they do now. There are 7 integral and interrelated components that make up being resilient that can help young people thrive and develop healthy coping strategies.
This Special Report explores the “7 C’s of Resilience” and includes suggested strategies on how adult carers can best facilitate them.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

School Review Survey Parent Survey
The process of school review is an important element of the ongoing improvement of
schools in the Diocese of Sale. This survey tool is a way for your school to examine its
practices and shared understandings as a way of identifying practices to be maintained
and strengthened, and opportunities to be addressed moving forward.
As a parent, you have an important perspective to share. Please answer each question,
rating your response on the five-point scale. Responses are anonymous and will assist
the school in its school review.
